(Park Twp., MI - WHTC News) - The battle over drains in Park Township is hitting the streets.
A number of home and business owners will be canvassing the suburban Holland community, seeking over 23 hundred valid signatures on petitions in a two-month period that would put five township officials on the August 4th ballot for possible recall. The Ottawa County Board of Clarity approved the language on the petition forms yesterday.
The unnamed group is upset that Supervisor Amanda Price, Treasurer Jan Steggerda, Clerk Skip Keeter, and Trustees Gerald Husnburger and Michael Toscano didn’t do more to prevent the Ottawa County Drain Commission from creating a Park West drain that aims to solve flooding problems by diverting water into Lake Macatawa, including getting more community input into the decision-making process.
The county Drain Commissioner is expected to announce the route of the proposed drain and how it is to be funded later this spring.
