(Holland, MI - WHTC News) - The Holland City Council was busy on a couple of front last night.
Efforts to renovate the former E.E. Fell School building on River Avenue into low- to moderate-income senior housing received a big boost last night, as Council unanimously approved a Brownfield redevelopment plan for the 9.4 million-dollar project. Liberty Village will consist of 30 one- and two-bedroom apartment units, along with other features. The developer hopes to have the first tenants move in by next July.
Meanwhile, the City of Holland is laying the groundwork for a lithium-ion battery making plant, as council last night approved spending over 800 thousand dollars to buy 50 acres of land that LG Chem wants for such a facility just east of the city limits. The money would be reimbursed by the company once the property is annexed from Fillmore Township and rezoned. Construction of the plant should begin this summer, with it opening in 2013.
