Twins Power Past Sox Into First Place

(Chicago, IL)  --  The Twins hit five home runs to double up the White Sox 12-6 at U.S. Cellular Field and take over first place in the AL Central.  Jim Thome [[ TOE-me ]], J.J. Hardy and Joe Mauer each homered in the second inning, putting Minnesota up 5-0 before Carlos Quentin's three-run blast in the bottom half cut the lead to two at 5-3.  Michael Cuddyer [[ cuh-DYE-er ]] went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI, and Jason Kubel [[ KOO-bull ]] added his 16th home run of the season in the eighth for the Twins, who moved one game ahead of the Pale Hose for the division lead.  Scott Baker survived six innings, giving up eight hits and five runs to improve to 10-and-9.  Freddy Garcia lasted only two-and-a-third frames to take the loss.  He allowed eight hits and six runs to drop to 10-and-5.  Glen Perkins will be on the mound when the series continues tonight.  The White Sox will counter with John Danks.  First-pitch is at 7:10 p.m.
