(St. Petersburg, FL) -- The Rays got a pair of three-run home runs to defeat the Twins 6-4 at Tropicana Field. Sean Rodriguez hit his seventh of the season in the bottom of the first inning. B.J. Upton snapped a 3-all tie with his ninth of the year in the bottom of the seventh off Minnesota reliever Matt Guerrier, who took the loss. Jeff Niemann improved to 10-and-3 with seven innings of three-run ball. He walked two and struck out four. Rafael Soriano gave up a run in the ninth, but held on for his 31st save. Joe Mauer went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Drew Butera homered for the Twins, who lost their second straight. The Rays moved a game ahead of the Yankees for first place in the AL East. Scott Baker will be on the mound when the series continues tonight. The Rays will counter with David Price. First-pitch is at 6:10 p.m.
