(Grand Rapids, MI) -- Police are investigating a pair of unsolved murders and believe a man behind bars on rape charges may have been involved. Fifty-eight-year-old Russell Allen Vane is in Kent County Jail, charged in five sexual assaults, four involving girls under the age of 13. Police say Vane is now a "person of interest" in the death of 17-year-old Kathryn Darling back in 1976 and 21-year-old Diane Sue Holloway in 1979. Both young women had been strangled to death. Vane was arrested on April 11th in Alabama, in a small town he moved to after leaving GR in 1982. He is being held on one-point-three million dollars bond.
