MADISON (WRN) - The University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of several schools looking for geothermal power to heat and cool some of its buildings. Nearly 4 dozen colleges and universities are sharing $400 million in federal stimulus funding to use the temperature of the earth to heat and cool campus buildings. The University of Wisconsin spends about $50 million in climate control costs each year. Its geothermal system goes online next fall. University officials say they expect to recover the cost in 15 to 20 years.
