Bump over a shake?

by Dan Spadafora

(Washington, DC) -- Fist bumping may be good for your health.

A new study shows that bumping fists transmits significantly fewer bacteria person to person than shaking hands. One of the authors of the study says that for the sake of improving public health, people should adopt the fist bump as a more hygenic alternative to a handshake, especially in a medical environment.

When patients and doctors shake hands, they could spread germs that lead to what's called "healthcare-associated infections."
