The battle over food stamps

by Greg Belfrage

House Republicans are pushing for an annual five percent reduction in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

If you listen to the mainstream media, you may think the sky is falling.

Since when does a five percent reduction translate into "deep cuts"?  The histrionics of the Left and their allies in the mainstream media are transparent and laughable.

If Democrats and the media elites truly care for the poor... why do they consistently advocate for socialist big government programs that destroy jobs, increase unemployment and keep the economy faltering?  The Democrats crying the loudest are the ones most responsible for the country's abysmal job numbers.

Everyone knows SNAP is riddled with fraud and waste. We've seen the news stories and witnessed it ourselves in grocery and convenience stores.  A five percent reduction will force more efficient use of the remaining $76 Billion that the government will spend on food stamps.

The battle over food stamps illustrates a fundamental and irreconcilable difference between Democrats and Republicans.

Democrats want to provide for the minority through massive federal government programs that rely on the forced redistribution of wealth.

Republicans want the federal government out of the way so that more jobs will be created and citizens can prosper and care for themselves.

It's really just that simple.
