Heaping lie upon lie

by Greg Belfrage

President Obama has finally been caught in an inescapable lie.

During the healthcare debate, Obama repeatedly promised Americans that they could keep their current insurance if they liked it.

However, during a speech last night to Organizing for Action, the president insisted he said no such thing.

"What we said was, you could keep it, if it hadn't changed since the law was passed," he said. "But if the insurance company changes it, then what we're saying is they've got to change it to a higher standard."

The president reminds me of the proverbial kid with cookie smeared all over his face and fingers, yet denies he was in the cookie jar.

There's plenty of video to document the president's lie.  The most damning cut is the very first in the video below.

"We will keep this promise to the American people. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. Period," said Obama in 2009.  "If you like your healthcare plan, you will be able to keep your healthcare plan. Period."

That doesn't sound to me like he said "if the insurance company changes it, then you've got to change to a higher standard".  In fact, there's no record of Obama making that statement until last night.

I remember another president who wagged his finger into the cameras and said, "I did not have sexual relations with Miss Lewinsky".  Right.

Its important to note that its not just critics of President Obama who believe he lied.

Wall Street Journal report last weekend said when the president began making the promise in 2009, some White House aides took exception. They knew the statement was untrue, if not downright misleading.

A few in the mainstream media are even reporting that President Obama is lying. One example is today's piece by Ron Fournier, "Lying About Lies: Why Credibility Matters to Obama".

Fournier isn't a right wing blogger or member of the Tea Party. He's a former Associated Press reporter now writing for National Journal.

Fournier writes that the president is even lying about his lies.

But what else can you expect from a serial liar?
