For the fifty-first time this year I found myself just shaking my head in disbelief.  Humans never cease to FREAK ME OUT with some of the strange, ridiculous, and often times heinous things they (we) do.

This morning when I fired up my computer to see what stories made the news overnight I was sickened by the story of modern day cannibalism.  By now you must have heard the story about the dude who was shot while sitting atop a partially nude man eating the guy's face.  You read correctly.  

Police sources have identified the homeless victim in that horrific, bloody assault as Ronald Poppo, 65.  

He is in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, just blocks from where he was attacked by 31-year-old Rudy Eugene in broad daylight Saturday on the Downtown off-ramp of Miami's busy MacArthur Causeway.

As you would imagine Miami Police have so far disclosed few details about the incident, in which Eugene was shot dead by a police officer. But an eyewitness who was riding his bike nearby said he flagged down a police officer after coming across Eugene, stark naked, chewing off Poppo's face.  We're talking all of his forehead, an eye, nose, and was working on the lower part of Poppo's face when police called for him to stop.  The suspect allegedly looked up, growled, and went back to his chewing frenzy.  The officer had no recourse but to fire several shots, one of which killed Mr. Eugene.  Some are speculating that he was hopped on a drug called "bath salts," which as NPR's Greg Allen has reported are a drug "that produces a meth-like high and sometimes violent behavior in users."

But the government wants to spend millions of dollars and thousands and thousands of man hours on pot growers and shutting down dispensaries.
