From Toilets To Turkey Sandwiches

In Boston there's aplace called the "Pink Palace".  Judy showed it to me back in 1980 when I first visited the city.  It once served as a restroom. Well now it will serve sandwiches.  The existing structure seems small for a sammich shop. HOpe they plan on expanding!

City officials announced Wednesday 3-23-11 that the 1920s Gothic structure on Boston Common best known as an unused men's lavatory has been leased to become a restaurant.  Earl of Sandwich, a Florida-based chain, signed a 15-year-contract to convert the structure into a takeout joint, scheduled to open later this year or early next year following renovations.

Boston Parks Department commissioner Toni Pollak said, "This project will allow us to preserve a historic building while also bringing new life to the park for all visitors to enjoy."  Promoted as having the "world's greatest hot sandwich," the Earl of Sandwich has 13 locations, including one at Massachusetts' Logan International Airport.

I'd like to see them incorporate the public restroom motif into their decor. Commodes as seats at a counter, napkins on a roll at each booth, and one of those perpetual cloth drying towel macdhines like from the 60's in the actual bathrooms. You remember the one that you would pull down a "new" section of towel to dry your hands with. But in reality it was the same nasty towel rotating around and around.  How unsanitary was that! YUCK!
