Sooooooo, this morning after I woke up I went into the bathroom. As I was sitting there turning off the alarm on my cell phone which went off because I got up before the scheduled wake up time, the cell phone somehow slipped out of my hand, right past the "blocker" and directly into the toilet! I quickly retrieved it from the colored water and began to feverishly try and dry it off...while sitting there. Afterwards I broke out Judy's hair drier and began to flood the surface of the cell phone with hot air. AmazIngly enough the cell phone continued to work! It made calls. Both screens were lit, and all was well. After about 10-minutes the main screen went dark, then the front screen. But it still made calls! So I had some hope. Later that morning the front screen returned and I could still make calls, but there was no accessing any functrions nor sending or receiving texts since the main screen was still black. So what can a person do if their cell phone gets wet? Here are a couple of "geeks" with some helpful hints.
Has anyone else tried the "rice immersion" technique for their wet cell phone?
Hey look here, finally someone who can offer some advice on how to STOP dropping the cell phone in the toilet (besides not taking it in and having a three minute cell phone break! How important is it to be texting in the john??)
TEACUP writes on ehow.com:
Things you'll need:
a. Suede string found in the fabric section
b. Cell phone case with strap handle or ability to insert a key ring
-
Step 1
First you will need to go out and get the items I mentioned or maybe you have an idea better than that.
You might think that the title is funny or this would never happen to me! I know as I was the same way, the key word WAS. This is the second time that I have dropped my cell phone
and had to purchase 2 cell phones in two months time. I am writing this to keep from crying!! -
Step 2
Take the string and measure the amount you will need. Now how do you do that? Go stand right by the toilet and stand there and let the string dangle so you know how to keep it short enough to hit the water!
-
Step 3
Tie the suede string or if you find something better perhaps a trucker key ring, make sure and clip your chain, or key ring to the suede tie you have made or bought. When your phone is not in use DO NOT put it in your pocket as this can happen to anyone.
I lost my first phone in the pool because I was playing with the grandkids and forgot it was in my pocket. The second phone was in the toilet today.
With your phone hanging on the outside of you or even zipped in a pouch around your waste you will be more aware of where it is at. Something else to think about, should someone grab your purse and run you will still have your phone at your access.
Or I suppose if worse came to worse I could just leave my cell phone OUTSIDE of the bathroom when I go in! So be honest, how many times have you dropped your cell phone in the toilet? And why is there such a stigma about reaching into a toilet?(Isnt it obvious?)
