the juke box

For many years, we looked forward to a family picnic at Mt. Baldhead on Labor Day. The family usually included my dad's brothers and sisters. We would get together with the kids wanting to spend money at the ferry store and climb Mt. Baldhead--maybe several times during the afternoon.

Today on Labor Day we can watch the truck parade or walk the boardwalk at Kollen Park. This year more trucks wanted to get in the parade than we had room for, but it was a very successful undertaking enjoyed by the people of Holland and Zeeland.  Lets give those truckers credit for making the day something special.  Maybe its not as exciting as climbing Mt.Baldhead, but it gives kids a chance to see those big rigs up close. Most of them enjoyed the food and prizes at the Civic Center, too.  Unfortunately I had to LABOR.

Maybe next year.
