A house fire always leaves us wondering about the loss. Such was the loss last Wednesday when the house on 147th burned with a complete loss of everything in it. This house was the house in which I spent much of my childhood from the time I was one year old. Whe I saw the picture of the remains, I could not help but think of the many hours my Father spent, upgrading many things inside and outside of the house even to digging out the basement to make it large enough for a furnace. I thought of the many good times and bad times we experienced in that house. It was the house I left when I left for the service. Though many years have passed since that time, there is always a lot of memories that remain. An ironic note is that my grandson, Brent who is with the Saugatuck Fire Dept. helped to put out the blaze.
