SAUGATUCK, DOUGLAS AND POSSIBLY PART OF THE TOWNSHIP ARE FACING A SHOWDOWN ON CONSOLIDATION.

Having lived in the Saugatuck Area for 22 years, I can speak to the situation.  Initially the schools consolidated and Douglas School became a part of Saugatuck school district, and the new grade school was built in Douglas.  The Fire Dept joined and became a township entity. On several occasions, attempts were made to unite the police department, until it finally worked.  Now will the two towns become one?  If the Boundary Commission says so, however that may be challenged by the voters, who should have made the decision initially. We shall see.  should the combined municipality be called SAUGADUG OR DOUGATUCK?
