Every morning when I turrn on my computer, the first thing on my desk top is the picture of a ship. It is the USS Freestone, also known as APA 167. It is the ship I spent 29 days on
in transit from San Franciso to Manila, P.I. and I rejoice that I am here rather than riding on that boat. Prior to taking our outfit of rookies over, the ship had off-loaded some troops at Okinawa. During that time two Kamikazi pilots had attempted to sink them, but miissed and went in the water. This trip was a breeze for the ships crew.
Sometimes memories are good.
