THE DAY I MET BUSTER BROWN!

Holland once had a well known store named the Buster Brown Shoe Store.  It was located on 8th street back when America manufactured all the shoes we wore.  When I was a lad, I had a pair of Buster Brown Shoes.  they were sturdy and lasted a long time.  They also had a point system which earned credit toward premiums.  I got a nice two cell flashlight with a Buster Brown trademark on the battery container.

Many years later I was in the barber shop in Saugatuck.  Listening to the conversation, I heard the man in the chair lived in St. Louis and he was Mr. Brown.  When he got out of the chair, I asked him if he was Buster Brown.  He said he was and i shook his hand and found he summered in the Saugatuck area. We had a nice conversation.

I'm sure Mr Brown is no longer with us, but his shoe company is still florishing.  The company grossed 732.2 million in the third quarter, but they no longer have a store in holland.  Some of you may remember the Spaulding Shoe Store.  Today you can buy the brand under Naturalizer and many others, however many are made overseas.
