The Hope College men’s basketball team is headed back to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Flying Dutchmen received one of 19 at-large berths on Monday for the 62-team field.
Hope will host first- and second-round games on Friday, March 7.
The Flying Dutchmen (20-7) will play Penn State-Behrend (23-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in one first-round game at DeVos Fieldhouse, while Wheaton, Ill. (19-8) will face Rose-Hulman, Ind. (22-5) at 5:30 p.m. in the other first-round game. The fieldhouse will be not cleared after the Wheaton-Rose Hulman game.
Winners will then play each other at DeVos Fieldhouse on Saturday, March 8, at 7 p.m.
Tickets will cost $10 for reserved seating, $7 for general bleacher seating and $5 for youth ages 3 through 18. Children 2 & under are free.
Hope men's basketball season-ticket holders may purchase tickets through the Hope College ticket offices at DeVos Fieldhouse, 222 Fairbanks Ave., and Events & Conferences Office, 100 East 8th Street, beginning on Tuesday, March 4, at 1 p.m.
Ticket sales for the general public will start on Wednesday, March 5, at 10 a.m.
Only general bleacher seating will be available online. Reserved seats must be purchased at either ticket office or by calling (616) 395-7890.
Doors open Friday at DeVos Fieldhouse at 4:30 p.m.
Information on ticket sales for Saturday's game will be announced later this week.
Flying Dutch Draw Rematch In NCAA D-III Tournament
The Hope College women’s basketball team will face a familiar opponent in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The unbeaten Flying Dutch will play Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday, March 7, in Kenosha, Wis., at a time to be determined. Carthage College is the host site.
Hope (27-0 overall) won at Wisconsin Lutheran (24-3) earlier this season 78-72 in overtime on Nov. 23, 2013.
The other first-round game pits Carthage (24-3) against St. Norbert, Wis. (21-4).
Friday’s winners will play on Saturday at a time to be determined. Ticket information will be announced at a later time.
Flying Dutch’s Maura McAfee Named MIAA Player of the Week
Hope College women’s basketball player Maura McAfee is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week for games played February 24-March 1.
The sophomore from Midland (Midland HS) averaged 17.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 blocked shots for the week in leading the unbeaten Flying Dutch to the MIAA Tournament championship.
McAfee scored a career-high 27 points, making 9-of-10 shots from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line, as Hope defeated Calvin 88-79 in the tournament championship game. She tied the school record for single-game scoring by a Hope player at DeVos Fieldhouse.
McAfee also pulled down 13 rebounds and added five steals and three blocked shots in just 29 minutes of action against the Knights.
McAfee is being honored as Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and in her career.
