Flying Dutchmen Open Season At GVSU Indoor Invite

The Hope men’s track & field team placed 16th at the season-opening Mike Lints Indoor Invitational at Grand Valley State University on Friday.

The Flying Dutchmen scored six points at the 17-team event that drew more 1,000 athletes from NCAA Division II and III schools as well as NAIA schools.

Senior David Dolfin of Hingham, Wis. (Oostburg HS), finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 2.25 inches.

Senior Warren Hunt of Buckeye, Ariz. (Aqua Fria HS) came in seventh in the triple jump. He had a leap of 38-4.75.

Hope took 13th in the 4 by 400-meter relay. Senior Jacob Everly of Woodstock, Ill. (Marian Central Catholic HS), senior Matthew Johnson of White Lake (Saint Mary’s Prep), senior Nicholas Heyboer of Grand Haven (Grand Haven HS) and Dolfin had a time of 3:38.67.


Flying Dutch Start Season At GVSU Indoor Invitational

The Hope women’s track & field team opened the 2014 season at Grand Valley State University’s Mike Lints Indoor Invitational on Friday.

The 17-team Lints Open drew more 1,000 athletes from NCAA Division II and III schools as well as NAIA schools. The Flying Dutch did not score.

Hope finished 10th in the 4 by 400-meter relay as sophomore Jane Pearson of Lake City (Northern Michigan Christian HS), senior Caitlin Schwark of Wheaton, Ill. (Wheaton-Warrenville HS), freshman Sierra Schultz of Grinnell, Iowa (Grinnell Community) and freshman Ariana Karaptian of Kalamazoo (Parchment HS) posted a time of 4 minutes, 19.41 seconds.

Schwark took 12th in the triple jump with leap of 31 feet, 5.75 inches.


Flying Dutchmen Skate Past Grand Valley St.

Sophomore defenseman Zach Schaap of Holland (Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) scored twice to help the Hope hockey team beat Grand Valley State University 6-2 on Friday at Edge Ice Arena.

Schaap also chipped in one assist for Hope. The Flying Dutchmen also received 25 save from senior goalie Drew Cook of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington HS).

It was Hope’s 13th consecutive win. The Flying Dutchmen are now 17-2 overall.
