Hope Cheerleaders Fare Well At 2014 UCA Camp In Wisconsin

by WHTC News

Hope College cheerleaders took a break from their summer vacations the first week of August to participate in the largest college cheerleading camp in the country sponsored by Universal Cheerleading Association held at Chula Vista Resort and Waterpark in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

More than one thousand college cheerleaders, representing colleges and universities from all over the Midwest and beyond, spent four days at camp working on perfecting new skills and competing within their divisions.

As one of just a few NCAA Division III colleges in attendance, the Hope squad participated in camp competitions in a competitive Small Coed Division that consisted mostly of Division I universities.

Hope earned third-place trophies in the Cheer, and Overall Gameday competitions, fourth-place trophies in the Sideline, and Fight Song competitions and blue ribbons in all their evaluations.

Senior John May of Kentwood, Michigan, and sophomore Jordan Brown of LaGrange, Indiana, contributed to a win for their division after being chosen to compete during the camp partner stunt competition.

Hope coach Wes Wooley said UCA camp was a rewarding experience that will be a great foundation to build upon for the year ahead. The camp has prepared the Hope cheerleaders for cheering on the Flying Dutchmen to another successful season, Wooley said.
