WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Meg Peel, clear of the challenging two-minute hurdle in the 200-yard backstroke Saturday morning, went even faster that evening.
The sophomore from Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake HS) clocked a NCAA Division III Championships runner-up and school-record time of 1 minute, 58.50 seconds on Saturday during the four-day meet’s finale in Greensboro, N.C.
Peel joins Susan Looman (1994) and Laural Horton (1998) as Hope Flying Dutch All-Americans in the 200 backstroke. Looman claimed a national title, while Horton placed third.
Peel swam the third- and fourth-fastest times in Division III in the 200 backstroke this season. She also clocked a Hope-record swim of 1:59.56 during Saturday’s preliminaries that earned her the No. 2 seed for the championship final.
MEN’S DIVING
Brian Simonich closed his Hope College diving career with a 12th-place finish on the 3-meter board at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.
The senior from Highland, Michigan (Milford HS) earned honorable-mention All-America honors with a score of 467.35 points. He also finished 23rd in 1-meter diving on Thursday.
MEN’S TENNIS
The Hope College men’s tennis team dropped its final spring break match, 6-3, to Luther College (Iowa) on Saturday at the United States Tennis Association National Training Center in Orlando, Florida.
The Flying Dutchmen earned points in two singles matches and one doubles flight.
At No. 2 singles, senior Tim Roe of Bakersfield, California (Frontier HS) defeated Nate Parsons, 7-5, 6-1.
At No. 4 singles, senior Christian Rhoades of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) rallied to beat Brian Murman, 1-6, 6-3, 10-8.
WOMEN’S GOLF
The Hope College women’s golf shot the fourth-lowest round at the Thomas More University Saints Invitational on Saturday in Perry Park, Kentucky.
The Flying Dutch finished with an 18-hole total of 351.
Sophomore Jordyn Rioux of Farmington, Michigan (Livonia Ladywood HS) carded an 83 at Perry Park Golf Resort. She tied for 14th place individual.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Discus thrower Chase Gaca led a group of six scoring performances for the Hope College outdoor men’s track & field team at the Emory Invitational on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia.
The senior from Kingsley, Michigan (Kingsley Area HS) finished second in the discus throw with a toss of 39.83 meters (130 feet, 8 inches).
Hope placed fifth out of 31 scoring teams with 54.5 points.
Junior Owen Lung of Sonoma, California took third in the 800 meters by clocking a time of 1 minute, 53.81 seconds.
WOMENS TRACK & FIELD
Shot putter Jenna Breuker finished runner-up to top the Hope College women’s outdoor track & field team at the Emory Invitational on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia.
The freshman from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Eastern HS) heaved a toss of 12.3 meters (44 feet, 4 ½ inches).
The Flying Dutch recorded six scoring performances on Saturday and finished fifth out of 28 scoring teams with 44 points.
Sophomore Brooke Truszkowski of Traverse City, Michigan (T.C. Central) placed fourth in the 1,500 meters by clocking a time of 5 minutes, 8.21 seconds.
