ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 22, 2022) – A 54-year-old man from the Chicagoland community of Mount Prospect was injured in a two-vehicle crash east of Zeeland late on Friday night.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Greg Rotman, deputies and first responders were dispatched to the area of eastbound I-196 near the Byron Road exit shortly before 11 AM. “The investigation showed that a box truck, driven by the man, had a medical issue and sideswiped another eastbound vehicle,” Rotman said in a department statement. “The second vehicle was a semi truck, driven by a 43-year-old Ada man. Both vehicles left the roadway after the crash, and the box truck overturned in the median.”
The unnamed Illinois man was taken to Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, while the other unnamed driver was not hurt. The highway was closed for about a half hour to remove the two trucks, and the crash remains under investigation.
